It's fixed, we hope!

Last summer we decided it was probably time for a new roof, since it's a 90-year old house with 40-year old shingles. It actually only leaked in one place that was obvious, and only when the wind was from the east. (weird)

But last week we had a gully-washer and the wind was from the east. So much wind from the east that it was sideways-rain! The roof leaked!

John had just replaced the ceiling tiles in the hallway between the kitchen and the family room (Prairie Room, as we like to call it), and now two of them were again ruined.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

The Easter bunny salad--crafted this year by my nephew, Joe (who is 21 now!), which is a pear half, mini-chocolate chips for eyes, and (dry) spaghetti pieces to stick the marshmallow ears and tail to the 'bunny'.

Izaac had most of his Easter clothes still on when I arrived since he'd gone to church with his mom, grandmom and great-grandmom this morning-AND Uncle Bob, Joe and great-uncle Charlie, too.

Izaac 'poses' for the camera at short bursts (well, he was trying to eat his Easter pear bunny!), so I don't always capture the greatest one...

The table BEFORE we ate. Izaac and his aunt Michelle are at the far end.

Spring is for new farm babies....

"Last year's" baby...

This is the first close-up look I've had at the new calf down the road.

'It' (don't know the gender) got nervous when I slowed down to take its picture, and turned around to head towards mom.

What a revolting development! It's April!

We woke up to "thunder-snow" this morning, even though the 'snow' part was supposed to arrive 'north of here' (according to the weather affiliates-even last night!)...

Yesterday.....(Monday, April 18th) Four cats were lounging yesterday afternoon while I practiced some quilt squares (three show in this picture).

Today....(Tuesday, April 19th!!!)

Yesterday....

Today....

Sunny Saturday, but not very spring-like!

It's cold and windy again, (39 this morning!) but some of the flowers have started to peak out of the ground.

That's Georgy on the other side of the pine tree (and below in the next picture, also).

Georgy and Grace were looking for small rodents in the tall grass...

In the meantime, Bogie decided to take a nap in his box...upside down and backwards....

Well, the start of a new fence!

Wednesday in Iowa was FABULOUS weather-wise, until late afternoon, when the wind started blowing--cold!!!

John went and got supplies for a new patio fence, and Bogie had to 'snoopervise' the pieces before he got them out of the truck.

A persistent cardinal (while Grace relaxes)

Grace has been VERY interested in the bird activity outside this past week (when it wasn't too windy).

This cardinal had been to the feeder (which was pretty much empty) twice before that day, and I was closer to my camera when it arrived for another check on the supplies.

The cardinal didn't actual eat much of this corn, but it was a nice color contrast for a picture...

Yes, John filled it when I told him the cardinal had visited twice yesterday and was disappointed and even looking in at us to see when we would fill it again!

These pictures were taken from inside, so the window shows and clouds the pictures a little.

gheez. That fence looks awful up close. I hope we get to replace it this summer.

The storms went northwest of our house!

The weather changed in a hurry Saturday afternoon and I thought we might get the first thunderstorm of the spring season, but it decided to go northwest with its tornadoes and paths of destruction. (No one was severely hurt in them fortunately!)

Baling the prairie, more pictures of Jewell

On Friday, someone started mowing the prairie grass around our house, and Saturday evening, the baling started. Today, the bales are being hauled somewhere (I don't have a clue as to where).

I took more pictures of Jewell than I thought I had, so the tour continues...

Above the fire department, below a view of City Hall (on the corner that looks like a bank??) and the rest of the block.

This is the Prairie Rose Quilts fabric and scrap-booking store.

A little tour of Jewell, Iowa

I love small town mottos' like Jewell's.

This is one of the places to eat in Jewell, Mischelle's. Classic Designs is on the right, and yes, there are several available slots on the main street if you're interested!

This is the middle-school and high school in town. (South Hamilton of Jewell is where my kids attended from 5th & 6th grade through high school. Their website is: www.s-hamilton.k12.ia.us if interested in learning more about them.)

The pool in Jewell.

The 'suburbs' of Jewell! (One of the newer developments of new houses on the edge of town.)

Does the blue heron know where HE is??

We saw this blue heron in a pond on the way home last week. We've seen a few before, but not often and not usually in a small pond.

It stood like a statue for a few minutes, then took off.

I went by Little Wall Lake this week, too, and on a blustery day, the water wasn't pleasant, but the ducks didn't seem to mind.

(This is Little Wall Lake in Jewell, too.)

This is a quick picture of Saylorville Lake as we drove across the mile-long bridge last Sunday evening. Boating weather is still a few weeks away!
