Missouri Valley area pictures from 6/11/2011

The view of Harrah's casino and hotel.

The track on the right has been raised, and that's the stabilizer and tamper visible on the right.

This picture shows the track on the right raised to combat the rising waters of the Missouri River. (thought it showed up in this picture better than the last one).

Near Missouri Valley yard area looking towards Blair, Nebraska.

(I'm going to put the rest of this batch of pictures on the flickr site, so you can click on the right hand side column to get to them.)

Wow, they raised a whole section of track? That's a lot of work - there must be a huge amount of traffic that moves through there, to make it worthwhile.

Yes, they raise the tracks near the area where they think the Missouri is going to flood. It's an interesting process and I'm going to post the set of pictures John took on 6/20 and 6/21 to flickr next. I added the descriptions (and that took all morning!), but if you have other questions for him, let me know!
