07 20 2013 Watermelon Day, Stanhope, Iowa

The color guard started the parade. (That's our neighbor, Miss Samantha, one of our cat sitters!  She's going to be 16 years old in August--I can't believe how much she's grown!!)
There were rescue trucks from EVERY close town around here.  In total, 17 of these firetruck/first responder-type vehicles were in yesterday's parade.
 Free watermelon slices served!!  yum
A pretty good crowd turned out yesterday for the festivities.  It was supposed to be a 'little cooler' than the 90's we have had this past week, but it got to 91!  The humidity wasn't quite as heavy as it had been, so it WAS a little more pleasant.
The annual 'tractor pull' for little ones, along with a little help from the City Administrator (who was running the contest).
